After Being Evicted, an Anti-LGBTQ Preacher Is Unable to Find a New Location for His Church: ‘No One Will Lease to Us’
In a video broadcast to one of his YouTube channels, far-right anti-LGBTQ preacher Jonathan Shelley indicated that Stedfast Baptist Church may need to find a new location since “nobody really wants to lease to us,” adding that Stedfast Baptist Church has also been “struck with a lot of legal bills.”
Only Sky’s Hemant Mehta adds that Shelley has given sermons in which he has celebrated the death of LGBTQ people and advocated for the punishment of abortion providers. He has even claimed that the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy was the result of a conspiracy.
The church was thrown out of its Hurst, Texas, site in February, most likely as a result of his preaching.
“It’s unclear where Shelley would go for a new place to live or who would be dumb enough to rent him a room. There is no amount of rent money that would compensate for the poor publicity that would result from permitting his religion to propagate hatred on your land “Mehta is a writer. “However, for Shelley and his New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist (New IFB) colleagues, geography isn’t as important as internet reach. Live-streaming sermons on YouTube is significantly more important than having a place inside a strip mall, and they’ve so far avoided YouTube’s repeated bans on their channels.”
